Mikimoto Pearls

Mikimoto pearls are the original cultured pearls. Kokichi Mikimoto was the first to successfully develop the process of making cultured pearls and the company he founded has continued to be a leader in the industry.

Previous to Mikimoto, pearls were extremely rare. Harvesting pearls was very labor intensive, and often achieved few results. It was not uncommon for hundreds of pearls to be harvested before finding a single pearl.

However, thanks to Mikimoto, pearls are much easier to find. Cultured pearls can be readily harvested with predictable results. Any woman that owns a cultured pearl can thank Mr. Mikimoto for his diligent research and experimentation.
