Tahitian Pearls

Tahitian pearls are highly prized due to their rare beauty. Commonly called black pearls, they can actually vary in color. Green, grey and bronze are not uncommon to these very sought after wonders.

Tahitian pearls are grown in the shallow lagoons common to French Polynesia. They are among the rarest types of pearls, even when cultured, because few oysters will survive the creation process. This makes these pearls much more expensive than your run of the mill saltwater pearl.

A string of Tahitian pearls can be very difficult to produce. The reason is due to the fact that each Tahitian pearl is unique, which often requires the inspection of hundreds of pearls before two similar ones can be found. Multiply this by 10-20 pearls on a string and you can start to understand the difficulty.
